There isn’t much interesting going on in the shop. I am finishing up a couple of special-order folding stools and a few additional ones for general sale. These will be the very last folding stools for a while. Three of the five require a varnish finish, which is highly time-consuming and also means I can’t make any dust while they dry. Boring.
Meanwhile, the nice gentleman who installed the concrete slab behind the shop for the next expansion phase was back working on the new site for the old shed. The previous platform is not up to the weight of the lumber I’ve accumulated. So, I explained what I wanted to do to the guy, and he had some ideas as well, and we settled on a plan. What I got was a ridiculously overbuilt platform. He has less English than I have French, and I’ve just proven that’s a low bar indeed. I have some Spanish, but not construction terms. So, there was much hand-waving.
And this is what I have so far. There will be 4×6 beams installed across this to support the shed’s floor once the cement cures. He accomplished all this over a week, despite frequent downpours. And does a thorough job. There’s a footer, with rebar, a ground wire for the service panel, a vent for the foundation, and waterproofing. Holy hell. If you need concrete work in the MD-DC area, we recommend him. If you don’t speak Spanish, though, borrow someone who does. This went better after we invited a neighbor over to chat.
